Once an inspector has identified a mold colony or colonies and has formulated a plan the actual remediation process takes place. Here are a few things you can expect when the remediation process begins:
-
A source control method such as a containment chamber and/or negative air technique will be put into place to combat cross contamination.
-
Air scrubbers and, if needed, dehumidifiers will be placed in the contaminated area to remove airborne spores and vent clean air into the workspace.
-
The mold colonies in all condition 3 (visible mold colonies) areas will be removed or treated following the remediation plan the inspector has devised.
-
A microbial sealer/prohibitor will be applied to any Condition 3 area that could not be removed and microbial prohibitor will be applied to all Condition 2 (settled spores) areas.
-
Material and air sampling will assure that the entire work area is returned to Condition 1 (normal fungal ecology)
-
If needed, a duct cleaning from a NADCA Certified cleaner will be performed.
